Who we are

About the Network

We are an alliance built on a simple belief: progress after spinal cord injury comes faster when science, clinical care and lived experience pull in the same direction.

Our vision

A clearer path from discovery to recovery

Spinal cord injury can reshape a life in moments. Our vision is a future where the gap between a promising finding and a treatment people can actually receive is as short and as safe as possible.

To get there, we work as one connected network across Australia and New Zealand. We set shared priorities, pool expertise across institutions, and keep the people most affected by injury at the centre of every decision. Our strategic approach is steady and practical: align effort, raise the quality of evidence, and remove the friction that slows good ideas from reaching the clinic.

Communicate, collaborate, cure. Three words guide everything we do. They describe both how we work together and the outcome we are reaching for.

Our objectives

What we set out to achieve

Three long-term commitments shape our agenda and hold us accountable to the community we serve.

  • Lead spinal cord injury research. Provide national leadership and a shared sense of direction, so effort across the region adds up to more than the sum of its parts.
  • Make clinical trials more effective. Improve how trials are designed, governed and coordinated, so promising treatments are tested rigorously and reach answers sooner.
  • Translate evidence into practice. Help proven findings move out of the lab and into everyday clinical care, so people feel the benefit in their own recovery.

Our approach

Five ways we speed up translation

Turning research into care is rarely one big leap. It is a series of practical choices that, taken together, shorten the journey.

Set shared priorities

We agree on the questions that matter most, so funding and effort concentrate where they can change lives fastest.

Connect the right people

We link researchers, clinicians and the SCI community early, so good ideas are shaped by real-world need from the start.

Raise trial quality

We share protocols, data standards and lessons learned, helping each new study build on the last rather than start from zero.

Open up knowledge

We favour transparent reporting and shared findings, so insight travels quickly between teams and across borders.

Support adoption in care

We work alongside clinical teams to put proven evidence into routine practice, with the guidance and resources they need.

Our alliance

Four perspectives, one shared mission

No single group can solve spinal cord injury alone. Our strength is in bringing different kinds of expertise into the same room.

Researchersasking the questions and building the evidence base
Clinicianstranslating findings into safe, practical care
Lived experiencekeeping the work honest, relevant and human
Supportersfunding, championing and sustaining the mission

Leadership

The people steering the work

Our network is guided by people who span the laboratory, the clinic and the everyday reality of life after injury.

Research Lead

Science & Strategy

Shapes our research priorities and keeps studies across the region aligned toward shared, measurable goals.

Clinical Director

Trials & Care

Guides how evidence is tested and translated, ensuring new treatments reach patients safely and responsibly.

Community Voice

Lived Experience

Brings the perspective of people living with spinal cord injury, making sure our work answers questions that truly matter.
